Vocabulary Words
- Tabernacle - the portable earthly dwelling place of God which the Israelites brought from Egypt to the Promised Land. This was later replaced when Solomon built the temple of Jerusalem.
- Ark of the Covenant - the most sacred relic of the Israelites: a gold-covered wooden chest with a decorated lid called the “Mercy seat”. It contained the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, Aaron's rod, and a pot of manna. The Israelites carried this chest during their 40year exodus and it was placed in the tabernacle whenever the Israelites camped. This was finally placed in the Temple of Jerusalem.
- Levite - a member of the Hebrew tribe of Levi, the third son of Jacob. They were specially selected or ordained to serve as priests.
- Tithe - 1/10 of annual earnings that the Israelites paid to the temple
- Laying of hands - the ordination of priests, involving the exchange of blessings to serve the Lord
- Theophany - the appearance of the Holy Trinity to the world through the Lord’s baptism
- Intercede - to pray on behalf of others
- Canonize - to officially declare a departed individual as saint
