• Vocabulary
  • The "Holy Eucharist" is also known as the Holy Qurbana or Holy Communion. This refers to the special worship where we receive the real Body and Blood of Jesus, or sometimes to the real Body and Blood of Christ. The service can also be called the Divine Liturgy. During the service where we remember the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. During the Eucharist, we come together as brothers and sisters in Christ to receive this special gift from God. It is a way for us to be closer to Jesus and to show our love and devotion to Him. The Eucharist is real in the Orthodox Church and not a symbol (St. John 6:51-66).
  • An "acolyte" is someone who helps the priest or deacon during the church service. They may assist with carrying the candles, setting up the altar, and other tasks that help with the smooth running of the service. Acolytes play an important role in the worship service and help to create a reverent and orderly atmosphere. They have the special privilege of serving in the church and learning more about their faith.
  • "Congregation" can be defined as a group of Christians who gather together for worship and prayer in Church. It refers to the community of believers who come together to worship God and learn more about Him. The congregation includes all the people who are a part of the church such as the clergy, children, families, and adults.
