  • Vocabulary
    • A "prophet" is someone who shares God's message with many people. They tell the people what God wants them to know, and sometimes they can even see into the future. A prophet is like a special messenger from God, who tells us important things that God wants us to hear and understand. Just like in the Bible, St. John the Baptist was a prophet who shared God's message and prepared the people for the coming of Jesus Christ.
    • A "forerunner" is someone who helps prepare others for something or for the coming of someone special. In the case of St. John the Baptist, he was the forerunner of Jesus Christ. This means that St. John helped to get people ready and prepared for Jesus' arrival. He taught people to say sorry for their sins, pray to God, and be good. St. John wanted everyone to be ready to welcome Jesus, who was very special and would bring love and salvation to the world. St. John the Baptist's role as a forerunner shows how important he was in helping people understand and get ready for Jesus.
    • A "Sacrament" is a special event in our life that God changes something in a way we cannot explain. It is like a holy mystery that helps us feel closer to God. When we have a sacrament, something important is happening between us and God, and it helps us grow closer to Him. For example, Confession is a sacrament where we talk to our priest about our mistakes, promise to do better, and receive God's forgiveness for our sins .
    • "Baptism" is a special service in the Orthodox Church where someone becomes a member of the Church. When we are baptized, we receive the Holy Spirit who helps to guide us to be more like Jesus and the saints. Baptism is a way for us to start a new life with God and be forgiven for our sins.
