  • A "savior" is a very special person who comes to help or rescue others when they are in trouble or danger. They are like a hero who does kind and brave things to make the world a better place. A savior can be someone who saves people from accidents, helps those who are sad or scared, or protects others from harm. They are someone we can trust and look up to because they make us feel safe and happy.
  • "Paradise" is a holy place where everything is beautiful. It's a place where everyone feels loved, safe, and cared for. In the Bible, Paradise is to be with God making it a truly special and joyful place to be.
  • The "Resurrection" is when Jesus came back to life after dying on the Cross on Great Friday. It means that Jesus conquered death and is alive again. It is a very special event because Jesus saved us from death and gave us a new life.
  • "Sheol" is a place where people who died in the Old Testament time waited for Jesus. It is a concept that may be difficult to understand for a first grade child. We can explain it as a place where people went after they died, like a waiting room, before Jesus came to save them. It is important to use simple language and relate it to the child's understanding of waiting or going to a specific place. As Jesus saved us from death with the Resurrection, today when we die we go to God and we all await the Second Coming and eternal life (heaven or hell). Teachers can use the words of the Nicene Creed if there are questions, i.e., "we look for the resurrection of the dead and the new life in the world to come". The departed are alive in God and waiting for this judgement.
