Vocabulary Words

  1. Unction: It is the act of anointing someone with oil or ointment. It is from Latin root and means “To anoint”.
  2. Sacrament: Sacraments or mysteries (syriac “Rozo”) are means by which God's grace are being poured into our lives
  3. Sin: Sin is disobeying the law of God. More broadly it means to miss the goal or standards that God expects of us.

Teachers Note : 1. Kandeela Shusrusha is a long form of anointing the sick sacrament. Here 5 candles are lightened in a special manner. In result it is similar to anointing of the sick sacrament. In kandeela shusrusha long bible readings , prayers & other service order is there. ( Ref :Janathakalude Prakasham ( An elementary study of Church, Ministry, And Sacraments by Rev Fr Dr KM George ) Anointing of the sick is a form of healing by prayer. Being ill and in pain, can very often be a time, when one feels alone and isolated. It reminds us that when we are in pain, either physical, emotional, or spiritual, Christ is present with us through the ministry of His Church. He is among us to offer strength to meet the challenges of life, and even when death is near. As with Chrismation, oil is also used in this sacrament as a sign of God's presence, strength, and forgiveness. After the reading of seven epistle lessons, seven gospel lessons and the offering of seven prayers, which are all devoted to healing, the priest anoints the body with the Holy Oil. Oil is the symbol of Love and compassion. Hence the oil is symbolizing divine mercy and compassion with which the sick are anointed
