  • The Gift of the Holy Spirit
    • Pentecost is not the birth or establishment of the Holy Church. It is the day the Church manifested and presented by the Holy Spirit to the world. The Church started in the communion of the Holy Trinity, was present in the Old Testament times, continues through the Fathers, and exists through us. The Church will be there in the years to come and will be glorified in the Kingdom of God.

  • Read and discuss Jeremiah 38: 31-34 and Joel 3.
  • Pentecost was an ancient Jewish harvest festival called the Feast of Weeks. It is referenced in Exodus 34:22, Leviticus 23:15-17, Numbers 28: 26- 31 and Dueteronomy 16: 9-19. Jews celebrated Moses receiving God’s law on Mt. Sinai. It is a feast of thanksgiving where Jews offered their first fruits in the Temple. On the day that the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, the people of Jerusalem were celebrating the Old Testament Pentecost. Having received the Holy Spirit, the Apostles are the first fruits offered to God and the law is the law of grace and love. In Hebrews 8:10, St. Paul writes, “I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
