- A Day of Worship and Reverence
- Holy Saturday occurs on the seventh day of the week. God commanded the Jews to keep the 7th day as rest or Sabbath because God rested from His labors on the 7th day of Creation. Exodus 20:10 states, “But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord Your God. In it you shall do no work.” God did not need rest for Himself. He created the Sabbath for man to rest. St. Mark 2:27 tells us, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” (St. Mark 2:27). As Christians, we know that the Sabbath is not merely a day to rest from work. It is a sacred day to be spent in worship and reverence. It is a day to redirect our minds and actions toward God. In St. Matthew 11:28, Christ says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Through His death and resurrection, Christ becomes the source of our rest.
