- St. Peter on seeing this amazing sight blurts out an offer to build tabernacles for each of them, giving the alternate name of this festival: Feast of Tabernacles (Koodara Perunnal in Malayalam). The Feast of Tabernacles also exists in Judaism as “Sukkot” which is inaugurated in the Pentateuch as a festival for the harvest in which makeshift tents are built to gather the results of farming (Exodus 34:22), and then evolved to commemorate the Exodus and the journeys of the Israelites in the desert (Leviticus 23:42-43). Perhaps this tradition led to St Peter’s offer to build tents in honor of the appearance of Moses and Elijah. In any case, a booming voice envelopes the Apostles in a cloud of light and proclaims Jesus as His Son and to heed His words. The disciples could only understand the event through an earthly lens but Christ knows they'll understand the heavenly realities that they experienced after His Death and Resurrection.
