Child Jesus in the Temple (St. Luke 2:41-52) Every year during the feast of Passover, the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem. When Jesus was twelve years old they went to Jerusalem and worshiped in the temple. After the feat while Joseph and Mary were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in the temple. His parents assumed that he was with the group and traveled for a day. When they searched for Jesus they were not able to find him. They returned to the temple in search of Him. After three days, they found Him in the temple sitting in the midst of teachers both listening to them and asking them questions. All were astonished by his understanding and answers.

Mary said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have been searching for you.” Jesus answered them “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:48-49). The temple of God is where God lives. Hence it is the most suitable place for Jesus to stay in the temple.
After that, Jesus returned to Nazareth with his parents and was obedient to them. St. Luke reminds us that Jesus was not trying to be disobedient, but His love for God the Father made Him want to continue to serve and grow in the Church. Jesus grew in wisdom and was loved by God and men.
