Scripture

In order to help our children grow in the Orthodox Faith in North America, a decision was made to standardize all materials to the Orthodox Study Bible (DSWA Kalpana DSWA/C/016/2010, October 28, 2010). Please continue to pray and support the development of a fully approved translation based on the Peshitta, and our textbooks will educate on the various translations and historic development of Scripture.

Liturgical Resources

The Ministry of Liturgical Resource Development (LRD) was created in July of 2015 (DSWA Kalpana DSWA/C/10/2015, July 24,2015) to promote the translation, versification, and publication of vital English liturgical resources. Today most of our Sacramental offices are available and the "Service Book of the Holy Qurbono" and "Shehimo: Book of Common Prayer" are available in print. Wherever possible references will be made using LRD resources given the easy access to these materials to the faithful in North America.

  • Denaha Quqoyo (3rd stanza)
Without - fire or wood the water had been kindled
As Christ, - the Son of God, stepped into the Jordan
And John came forth - like a bless'ed priest
And laid his hand - on the head of Christ
Above, - the Holy Spirit came down like a dove
Resting, - and brooding over the river Jordan
Hallelujah w'Halleluyah

Patristic Quotes

  • [St. Philoxenos of Mabbug] "Neither the wetness of the water in which we are baptized, nor the oiliness of the oil with which we are anointed, remain with us after our death, but the Holy Spirit, who is mingled in our souls and bodies through the oil and water, does remain with us, both in this life and after our death."
  • [St. Cyril of Jerusalem] "You were led by the hand to the holy pool of divine Baptism…..and each of you was asked if he believed in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And you made that saving confession, you descended into the water and came up again three times. In the very same moment you died and were born."
  • [St. John Chrysostom] "You see how many are the benefits of Baptism, and some think its heavenly grace consists only in the remission of sins, but we have enumerated ten honors it bestows! For this reason we baptize even infants, though they are not defiled by personal sins, so that there may be given to them holiness, righteousness, adoption, inheritance, brotherhood with Christ, and that they may be Christ's members."
  • [St. Ephrem] "Oil is, therefore, the friend of the Holy Spirit and Her minister... for the Holy Spirit by the Anointed brands Her sheep. In the symbol of the signet ring that in sealing wax marks its imprint, also the hidden mark of the Spirit is imprinted by the oil on bodies anointed in baptism and sealed in the dipping."
