- When Martin Luther King Jr. was calling the nation to action over racial inequality, he succeeded by appealing to the nation’s values contained in the Declaration of Independence of the United States. “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” Having appealed to the foundational values of the United States of America, he called for the nation's actions to more accurately reflect those values.
