Expanding Thoughts on Lesson
- Introduction
- The problem with these Solas was that they dropped some vital traditions the Holy Church maintained from the very beginning of Christianity. With Sola Fide, the importance of the good works a Christian is called to do was diminished. Sola Gratia made the Grace of God the sole agent for achieving salvation; thus, all sacraments were devalued. Sola Christus or by Christ alone is acceptable in the Orthodox Church. However, that shall not be used to do away with the priesthood. Soli Deo Gloria is also accepted in the Orthodox Church. However, that does not mean that veneration of saints and St. Mary is wrong. None of these solas, therefore, are sustained by the Holy Scriptures either.
