Circumcision is the symbol of covenant between God and Abraham. The covenant was “I will be your God and will be faithful to you. You shall walk in my ways”. Circumcision is the response from Abraham to God towards this covenant. Male offspring of Abraham had to receive circumcision on the 8th day of their birth. Females were exempted as in the Jewish understanding females are cosmically included in the male circumcision.

Baptism never excluded women from receiving it. Male and female are to receive baptism alike. 

In the New Testament 8th day is symbolizing resurrection of Jesus Christ. Since Jesus’ resurrection was on Sunday, it was the 8th day from the Palm Sunday and every Sunday thus becomes the 8th day. In other words, 8th day became a synonym for resurrection. Thus, circumcision on 8th day was redefined as baptism and it is therefore, understood as participation in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Male and female alike are included and adorned with the robe of bright light, which is the faith and sonship from God. This not just the confession of faith and accepting God as God, but became participation and share in salvation.

Baptism encompasses renewal of the whole person and thus the whole person participates in the new creation.

Circumcision involves a cut, a wound, and healing therefore of the body. Baptism cosmically heals the body, soul and thus ensures the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the person.

Baptism is understood as the circumcision of the soul. One therefore, has to check that certain healing from a cut off of bad behavior happens.

Circumcision made a male into a Jew. Baptism makes a male and female into a Christian, an upgrade from the old law.

Circumcision is not a new birth. Baptism is new birth, a share to be part of the Kingdom of God.

Baptism ensures that one is make a child of God, where circumcision does not. Circumcision is not inclusive of all and everyone, but baptism is inclusive of all.

Thus, circumcision is replaced by baptism.
